Eye Shield Pro – Privacy Policy

1. Introduction

Welcome to Eye Shield Pro ("we", "our", or "us"). We are committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy describes what information the app accesses, how it is used, and your choices. Eye Shield Pro runs fully on-device and does not transmit your personal data to our servers.

By using Eye Shield Pro, you agree to this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the application.

2. Information the App Accesses

2.1 On-device preferences (stored locally)

We store your settings locally on your device using Android SharedPreferences, including:

  • Screen dimming level and filter strength
  • Blue light filter mode, color temperature, and presets
  • Advanced filter options (such as sepia, grayscale, invert)
  • Theme preference (system / light / dark)
  • Scheduling preferences (enabled / disabled, sunrise / sunset vs. custom times, chosen times)
  • Onboarding status and feature toggles (for example, auto‑adjust)

2.2 Optional coarse location (on-device only)

If you enable the sunrise / sunset scheduling option, the app may access your approximate location (ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION) to estimate local sunrise and sunset times. This location is read from the device's last known location if permission is granted. The location is used only to compute times on your device, is not stored by the app, and is not sent to any server.

2.3 Sensors (on-device only)

If you enable auto‑adjust, the app reads ambient light sensor values in real time to adjust brightness and filter strength. These readings are not stored or transmitted.

We do NOT collect or transmit:
  • Names, email addresses, phone numbers, contacts, photos, videos, or files
  • Precise GPS location
  • App usage outside of Eye Shield Pro or browsing history
  • Financial information or payment data
  • Screen content or screenshots
  • Advertising identifiers
  • Analytics, crash reports, or diagnostics to third parties

3. How We Use Information

  • App functionality: Provide screen dimming and blue light filtering via an on‑screen overlay.
  • Personalization: Remember your preferences, presets, and theme.
  • Scheduling: Turn the overlay on / off at times you select or around sunrise / sunset.
  • Notifications: Show a persistent notification that lets you toggle Eye Shield Pro.
  • Performance: Operate the foreground service needed for a reliable overlay.

4. Data Storage and Security

4.1 Local storage

Your preferences are stored locally using Android SharedPreferences. We do not operate any backend that stores your personal data. If your device backup is enabled, the operating system may include app preferences in device backups according to your system settings.

4.2 Security

Android provides app sandboxing and OS‑level protections. Eye Shield Pro does not implement additional encryption for SharedPreferences because it does not store sensitive personal data. You should still keep your device updated and protected with a lock screen.

5. Permissions We Request and Why

Eye Shield Pro may request the following permissions to function correctly:

  • SYSTEM_ALERT_WINDOW: To display the screen overlay for dimming and filtering above other apps.
  • FOREGROUND_SERVICE / FOREGROUND_SERVICE_SPECIAL_USE: To run the overlay reliably in the foreground so it is not unexpectedly stopped.
  • POST_NOTIFICATIONS (Android 13+): To show a persistent control notification so you can quickly toggle the filter. This is optional but recommended.
  • RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED: To restore your chosen state and reschedule timers after device restart.
  • SCHEDULE_EXACT_ALARM (Android 12+): To switch the overlay on / off at exact times when scheduling is enabled.
  • ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION (optional): Only used to estimate sunrise / sunset when you enable that scheduling mode; not stored or transmitted.

Permissions are used solely to deliver core functionality. We do not use them for tracking or advertising.

6. Third‑Party Services

Eye Shield Pro does not include advertising SDKs, analytics SDKs, or crash reporting SDKs. Distribution and updates are provided by Google Play, which has its own privacy practices.

7. Data Sharing

We do not sell or share your personal data. We may disclose information if required by law or to comply with a valid legal request, or if necessary to protect our rights or the safety of our users.

8. Your Choices

  • Settings: Change any preference within the app at any time.
  • Permissions: Grant or revoke runtime permissions in your Android system settings.
  • Clear data: Clear app data in system settings to reset the app to defaults.
  • Uninstall: Uninstall Eye Shield Pro to remove the app and its local data from your device.

9. Children’s Privacy

Eye Shield Pro is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has used Eye Shield Pro and provided personal information, please contact us so we can help remove it where possible.

10. International Users

Eye Shield Pro is operated from India. The app processes data locally on your device and does not transmit your personal data to our servers. By using the app, you acknowledge that processing occurs on your device in the country where you use it.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy as the app evolves. Significant changes will be reflected by updating the “Last Updated” date and, where appropriate, via an in‑app notice. Continued use of Eye Shield Pro after changes means you accept the updated policy.
